Calgary, You’re Awesome.
At Ocean Homes, we’re proud to live, work and play in Calgary. Having migrated to Calgary from elsewhere, we have fallen head over heels in love with our adopted city. The city of Calgary is a vibrate city, rich with the amenities of any major city and the kindness of a small Canadian prairie town.
At just shy of a population of 1.4 million, Calgary is Canada’s 4th most populous city (after Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver). The city of Calgary resides on Treaty 7 Lands, and Canada’s first nations have long inhabited the area. As a municipality, Calgary’s modest rise to fame started in the late 1700s when David Thompson (a cartographer and fur trader) visited the site. Over the next 100 years, Calgary was an integral stop in Canada’s fur trade. It wasn’t until 1885, after the Canadian Pacific Railroad rolled through, that the city was officially recognized as a municipality.
Today, Calgary is a vibrate city, rich with culture and western hospitality. Our city is proud of its humble roots and western origins – which we celebrate every summer at the Calgary Stampede. Although our city now has a population of over a million, Calgary and its residents maintain the friendliness of a small town and the can-do resilient attitude of our heritage. Traits that make Calgary an incredible city to build a life in for both new and old Calgarians.
