The holiday season is here, and as we settle in for our second pandemic Christmas, we at Ocean Homes are looking forward to reinventing haow we celebrate the holidays with our close friends and family from the comfort of home.
As a family business and a custom home builder, we’ve appreciated how covid has reinforced the importance of a rich and colourful homelife. Over the past 22 months, we’ve enjoyed watching our families grow closer as our homes fill with life.
With the holidays upon us, there is no better time to sip hot chocolate by the fire, relax in the comfort of your home with those you love most of all. In an ode to Holiday Cheer, we’ve rounded up a few our favorites tips to bring the magic of the holidays into your home.
Our Ocean Homes Tips for a Very Merry Holiday at Home:
Say YES to the Wreath – Whether you’re a humbug or Christmas Spirit Junky, there is no better way to get into the holiday spirit than by adding some holiday cheer to your front door. As far as we’re concerned a Christmas Wreath is an absolute must! This holiday season, shop local and find your perfect wreath at a local flower shop, or make your own. For a little extra Christmas Cheer, while you’re decorating your homes exterior consider adding giant Christmas ornaments, to your front yard.
Get Cooking – Nothing says Christmas, like the smell of chestnuts roasting on your gas flames stove, or gingerbread baking in your state-of-the-art kitchen. Invite your little ones to help with the holiday baking and set up a Gingerbread Person decorating line on your kitchen Island. Here’s a link to our favorite gingerbread recipe.
Find a Christmas Playlist – When you built your house, you made it a priority to invest in a home wide sound system. This holiday season, deck your halls with the sounds of the holiday and find a Christmas Playlist you can sing a long to. At Ocean Homes, we love Bing Crosby’s Christmas Album.
Did Someone Say Candy Cane Hot Chocolate – Baby, it’s cold outside. When the weather is frightful, warm up with a big mug of Candy Cane Hot Chocolate. Candy Cane Hot Chocolate is quick to make, and oh so tasty! For an adult twist, add a shot of Baileys.

Have A Hollywood Christmas – Bring the magic of a Hollywood Christmas is to your home and set up a projector to play old Christmas Movies in your Livingroom. We recommend keeping the sound off, so you enjoy the visual art.
Make a Grinch Tree – Here’s a simple craft that’s fun to make and easy to get your kids to help with. Inspired by the Grinch Who Stole Christmas, Grinch Trees are the perfect holiday accessory to brighten up any room of your house. You can order a DIY make at home Grinch Tree Kit from Calgary’s Pinovate.
Embrace the Elf on a Shelf – Sorry Parents, but it looks like the Elf is here to stay! Instead of fighting the dreaded Elf, let Santa’s Spy work for you. Employ your Elf to be your homes chore foreman. Let your kids now, Elfie reports back to the big guy daily. If your kids want their stocking full of goodies, they need to impress the Elf. Let your kidos know, they can earn brownie points by helping keep the house tidy or not fighting with their siblings.
Write Santa a Postcard– Get your kids in on the holiday spirit and have them write a (homemade) postcard to Santa. Set the postcard crafting station up in your homes mudroom or kitchen and let them go crazy with glitter, and glue.
Upgrade your Christmas Tree – If your Christmas tree is looking tired, invest in some new ornaments to give your tree a new look. At Ocean Homes, we’re big fans of having a real Christmas Tree. After all there is something magical about the scent of a real pine tree. If a real tree is not for you, you can update the staple of your homes holiday décor by investing in a new synthetic Christmas Tree.
Hang up stockings, for EVERYONE in your Family – On the fireplace, hang with care a stocking for EVERY member of your family, including the dog, the cat, and the family goldfish. The extra stockings will not only give your home an added umph of Christmas camp but will bring a little extra magic on Christmas morning as your littles look to see what Santa brought Coco your pup.
