Our Ocean Homes Tips For Winterizing Your Home:
Clean Your Gutters – As the weather begins to chill, make a date to clean out your gutters. To prevent nasty icicles from growing, its essential to clean out your gutters. Doing so will allow the water to move freely and will prevent ice dams from forming during the cold months.
Snacks, and beverages, are a must for your family games night! If you have a game's room, you’ll want to have a bar area where you have a fridge stocked with your favourite beverages, and cupboards stocked with your favourite snacks.
Flush Your Hot Water Tank – Just like your car engines oil tank, your hot water tank works best when it receives regular maintenance. Before the mercury drops, schedule an appointment with your plumber to have your hot water tank flushed. Flush the water through the drain valve to clear out the sediments and to keep your hearer working at its best.
Get Your Ceiling Fans Spinning Clockwise – Simply put, ceiling fans are AMAZING! In the summer months they offer a budget friendly option for cooling your home. In the winter, when the ceiling fan is set to spin clockwise, the same ceiling fan can help push warm air along the ceiling towards the floor. To change the direction of your ceiling fan, simply turn off the fan and find the direction switch on the fan.
Replace Your Central Air/Heating Filters – Make it a bi-annual event to change the filters in your central air and heater. The simple act of replacing your heaters filter will keep your furnace performing at its best and will save you some serious cash.
Clean Out Your Garage – Due yourself a favour this winter and clean out your garage so you can save yourself time and shivers by not having to warm up your car or scrape off the ice.
Switch Over Your Closets – Put away the sandals, espadrilles, and cute summer dresses. Bring on the cozy sweaters, stylish boots, and winter coats. With winter here, you’ll appreciate having your cold weather clothes taking up prime closet real estate.
Now that you have our tips for getting your home winter ready, we hope they help you save precious time and money this cold season. And when you’re ready for a custom-built home, complete with a games room, let us know – we’d love to build your family’s dream house.
