 At just shy of a of 1.4 million people, Calgary is Canada’s 4th largest city. Despite the cities growing size, Calgary remains small town friendly. 

Staying true to the cities western roots, each year come fall the spirit of thanksgivings and western hospitality shine as Calgarians open their homes and hearts to one and other.

Host A Potluck Thanksgiving

New to Calgary? Get to know your neighbours and host a potluck Thanksgiving dinner for your neighborhood. Thanksgiving Potluck are a great way to meet new friends. Send out invites as you walk your neighborhood. 

Try a New Restaurant!

When you think of Calgary, the term “Food Destination,” might not be top of your mind. Contrary to the cities origin of a “cow town,” Calgary is home to some of Canada’s Best restaurants. With new restaurants like Borough, Luca, Fonda and Flora, and Pat and Betty’s now open there’s even more great restaurants for you to book a date night our at.

Head West & Hike the Larches!

Calgary, known affectionately as the gateway city to the Canadian Rockies, has the benefit of being just a short drive away from Kananaskis and Banff National Park. In the Rockies, fall is a time of unparalleled beauty with the launch trees turning a stunning shade of gold. This fall, pack the car and head to the mountains to hike the launches. Hike Sunshine Meadows, Larch Valley, or Taylor Lake. 

See The Pumpkins After Dark!

The October, Pumpkins After Dark, returns to WinSport at Canada Olympic Park. Pumpkins After Dark is a magical experience which showcases the incredible artistry of pumpkin carving. This years event will feature over 6000 hand carved pumpkins. Tickets are available online at pumpkinsafterdark.com.

Check Out The New Farmer’s Market

After years of having only a single location, the Calgary Farmer’s Market has finally opened a second location in the NW community of Greenwhich. The new location features over 75 vendors and is open daily.

Get Lost In A Corn Maze 

Head south to the community of Carseland in Rocky View County to visit Calgary Farmyard. At the Farm, find your perfect pumpkin, pet the cute farm animals and try to make it through a corn maze.     

Sign Up For A Guided Ghost Tour at Heritage Park

Get in the Halloween spirit and book a haunted walk through Heritage Park. Heritage Park, a family friendly amusement park in the cities SW, plays homage to the history of the Canadian west and his home to Alberta’s oldest buildings. On the heritage park ghost tour learn the stories of the otherworldly residents who call the park home. 

Decorate Your Home - With Halloween Flair 

Speaking of Halloween, the nightmare before Christmas is almost here! And a city, we Calgarians take our Halloween decorating very seriously. This month, give your home a spooky makeover and check out our blog on bootiful decorating.

While Calgary is the sunniest city in Canada, boasting over 333 days of Sunshine per year- come fall the amount of daylight our city see begins to diminish rapidly. With winter on its way, make space for cozy evenings spent at home. Think a family games room or at home theatre.
